Prince George's County, Maryland — Courts, Jail and Transfer Bonds

In Maryland, misdemeanors, DUI and bail review go to the District Court of Maryland for Prince George's County; felonies and jury trials go to the Circuit Court for Prince George's County. The District Court of Maryland is a single statewide court, so filings run through one unified system rather than county by county.

At Prince George's County Department of Corrections. Prince George's County adjoins both the District of Columbia and the Potomac crossings into Virginia. Note that D.C. itself has no commercial bail industry — an arrest across the district line is a completely different process.

Not directly. Bail bondsman licenses are not transferable between states, and Maryland requires a license from the Maryland Insurance Administration. We arrange a transfer bond instead — you handle the paperwork and payment with us in Virginia, and a Maryland-licensed bondsman executes the bond at the facility.

Maryland corporate sureties charge a premium filed with and approved by the Insurance Commissioner, generally around ten percent of the bond. Maryland also requires a numbered premium receipt itemizing the bail amount, the jurisdiction, the premium charged, any unpaid balance and any collateral. Insist on that receipt.

Ninety days from the failure to appear, which a court may extend to 180 days for good cause. If the forfeiture is not stricken or satisfied in that window, the clerk enters the order of forfeiture as a judgment.
