A co-signer, or indemnitor, guarantees the full face amount of the bond if the defendant fails to appear — not the premium, the whole bond. It should be someone with real influence over the defendant. We put this in writing before anyone signs.

The same as anywhere in Virginia: 10 to 15 percent of the bond amount. Virginia Code § 9.1-185.10 sets that band and a licensed bondsman cannot charge outside it. Rates do not change by county, by hour, or by holiday.
